கரப்பான் பூச்சிகள்: பிரச்சினை மோடிக்கு மட்டுமல்ல!

அரசுக்கு எதிராக சில ஆயிரம் பேர் திரண்டு வன்முறை செய்தால், மக்களால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட ஆட்சியை நிலைகுலையச் செய்ய முடியும் என்ற நிலை ஏற்பட்டிருப்பது நல்லதல்ல. அரசுக்கு எதிரானவர்களை விட ஆதரவான மக்கள் தான் அதிகம். ஆனால் போராட்டத் தருணங்களில் மக்களின் அரசு ஆதரவு வெளிப்படுவதில்லை. அதுதான் கவலை அளிக்கும் விஷயம்.

கரப்பான் பூச்சி போராட்டத்திற்கு அடிபணிந்தது அரசு. மத்திய கல்வி அமைச்சர் தர்மேந்திர பிரதான் பதவி விலகி இருக்கிறார் (ஜூலை 25). இதனால் மாணவர்கள் தரப்பை விட கொண்டாட்ட மனநிலையில் இருப்பவர்கள் அரசின் எதிரிகள் தான்.

மாணவர் போராட்டம், வன்முறை வடிவெடுத்துவிட்ட நிலையில் அரசுக்கு வேறு வழியில்லை. இனி வரும் நாட்களில் ‘வன்முறையே சரியான வழிமுறை’ என்ற எண்ணம் உருவாக இந்த முடிவு வழிகோலும்.

இந்த ராஜினாமாவை முன்னரே செய்திருக்கலாமே என்ற கேள்விக்கு, கரப்பான்பூச்சி குழுத் தலைவர் அபிஜித் திப்கேவின் உடனடி அறிவிப்பு தான் பதிலாக இருக்க முடியும். “அமைச்சர் பதவி விலகினாலும் எங்கள் போராட்டம் தொடரும்” என்ற அவரது அறிவிப்பு, கரப்பான்பூச்சி குழுவின் நோக்கம் என்ன என்பதை தெளிவுபடுத்துகிறது.

ஆனால், அரசின் அணுகுமுறை இனி மாற வாய்ப்பிருக்கிறது. இனியும் போராட்டத்தைத் தொடர்வது அதன் பின்னணியை வெளிப்படுத்தும். அப்போது போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட ‘உண்மையான’ மாணவர்கள் இனி களத்தில் இருந்து கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக வெளியேறுவார்கள். இறுதியில் கம்யூனிஸ்டுகளும், மத அமைப்பினரும் தான் எஞ்சுவார்கள். எனவே இதுவரை காத்த அமைதியை அரசு தொடருமா என்பது கேள்விக்குறி.

நாடாளுமன்றத்தைத் தகர்ப்பதாக இனி பேசினாலோ, அந்த நோக்கத்துடன் செயல்பட்டாலோ, அரசு கடந்த 20 ஆம் தேதி போல வேடிக்கை பார்க்காது என்பது மட்டும் உறுதி. கரப்பான்பூச்சி குழுவினர் அந்த அதிரடியைத் தான் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள்.

இந்தப் போராட்டத்தின் முடிவு பாஜகவுக்கு பாதகமா, சாதகமா என்பதெல்லாம் அடுத்த தேர்தலில் தான் தெரியும். மத்திய அரசு தனது குறைகளை சரிசெய்துகொள்ள இந்தப் போராட்டத்தில் கிடைத்த படிப்பினை உதவும். ‘அதீத தன்னம்பிக்கை இறுமாப்பாகிவிடக் கூடாது’ என்பதை பாஜக உணர்ந்திருக்கும்.

ஆனால் எதிர்க்கட்சியினர் பொறுமை காக்க மாட்டார்கள். ஏனெனில் 2014 முதல் பிரதமர் மோடிக்கு எதிரான பல சதிகளை அவர் லாகவமாக முறியடித்துள்ளார். முதல்முறையாக அவரது அரசு தோல்வி கண்டுள்ளது. இந்த வாய்ப்பை அவரது எதிரிகள் எளிதாக விட மாட்டார்கள்.

ஜந்தர் மந்தரில் குழுமியுள்ள அனைவரும் வெளியேறி அவரவர் வேலையைப் பார்க்கும் வரை பிரச்சினை ஓயாது. பிரச்சினை ஓய, கரப்பான் பூச்சிகள் என்ற பெயரில் இணைந்துள்ள கம்யூனிஸ்டு அமைப்புகளும் மத அடிப்படைவாதிகளும் கேஜ்ரிவால் கட்சியும் விட மாட்டார்கள்.

அரசுக்கு உறுதுணையாக மக்கள் / ஆதரவாளர்கள் குரல் கொடுக்கவும், ஒன்றுகூடவும் தயாராகாத வரை, நடப்பவை எதுவும் நன்மையாக இருக்காது.

நீட் தேர்வு வினாத்தாள் கசிவுக்கு அமைச்சர் நேரடியாகப் பொறுப்பில்லை என்பதால்தான் அவரைத் தக்கவைக்க மோடி அரசு கடைசி வரை முயன்றது. இந்தப் பிரச்சினை தொடங்கிய உடனேயே அவர் பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்ய முன்வந்தார். பிரதமர் மோடி தான் தடுத்து நிறுத்தியிருந்தார். அதன் காரணம் என்ன என்று, இத்துடன் உள்ள ஆங்கிலக் கட்டுரையைப் படித்தால் தெரியும்.

நீட் தேர்வு வினாத்தாள் கசிவுகள் ஐந்தாண்டுகளில் மூன்று முறை தொடர்ந்து கசிந்தது, மாணவர்களிடையே இயல்பான அதிருப்தியை உருவாக்கிவிட்டது. இப்போது கொண்டுவரப்பட்டுள்ள கடுமையான சட்டம், குற்றமிழைக்க நினைப்பவர்களை அஞ்சவைக்கும். Better Late Than Never.

கரப்பான் பூச்சிகளுக்கோ, பின்னிருந்து இயங்கிய கம்யூனிஸ்டுகள், மத அடிப்படைவாத அமைப்புகள், ஆம் ஆத்மி கட்சி போன்ற பிறருக்கோ, தர்மேந்திர பிரதான் இலக்கு அல்ல. அவர்களது குறி பிரதமர் மோடி தான். “பிரதமர் மோடி சாக வேண்டும்” என்ற கோஷம் பலநூறு முறை ஜந்தர்மந்தர் போராட்டக்களத்தில் ஒலித்தது. கம்யூனிஸ்டு மாணவர் சங்கங்களின் இந்த அருவெறுப்பான கோஷத்தை, அவர்களின் தாள கதிக்கேற்ப, உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்ட மாணவர்களும் முழங்கினார்கள். Evils are everywhere, Communists are always evils!

35 நாள் போராட்டம், இறுதியில் ஒரு நல்ல அமைச்சரை பலி கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இது பிரதானுக்கு இழப்பல்ல, பிரதான் மந்திரியின் நம்பகத்தன்மைக்கு இழப்பு. இதை அரசு சரிசெய்ய கொஞ்சம் காலம் ஆகும்.

A Scap Goat

1997. Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. The city was gripped by an unusual tension. The Class 12 board examination question paper had been leaked. In a single night, the future of thousands of students was thrown into uncertainty. Before this, nearly a dozen incidents of question paper leaks had already occurred in various examinations across Odisha. Anxiety was growing in every household. Cases of su!cidal tendencies among students were reportedly increasing. Yet, there was silence in the corridors of power. The Congress government, led by Chief Minister J.B. Patnaik, appeared to have ignored the paper leak issue as though it was not their problem. Even though question paper leaks had become a routine affair in Odisha during that period, the government was taking no effective steps to address them…

Then one morning, something unusual began unfolding outside the State Secretariat. Young men and women carrying placards took to the streets. Slogans such as, “No forgiveness for those who play with the future of students!” echoed through the area. The crowd kept growing… 500… 1,000… 1,500… nearly 2,000 students had gathered. Leading them was a young man, barely twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. With a sharp gaze, a commanding voice, and an unwavering determination to awaken a sleeping government. He was the National Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). There was a distinct resolve in his eyes…to force Patnaik’s government to wake up.

As the protest intensified, the students marched toward the Secretariat. The government deployed the Rapid Action Force. Suddenly, a lathi-charge began. The sound of batons filled the air, accompanied by students’ screams, dust, and blood…

That young man stood right at the front. He was the first to be struck by the batons. Once… twice… again and again. He suffered three fractures. His body was covered with serious injuries. He fell to the ground….but got back up. He stood on the streets once again. He refused to let the torch of the movement d!e. Day after day, the struggle intensified. What had begun as a fight for justice for students became one of the most talked-about political events in Odisha.

What he did earned him the reputation of being a fearless student leader. That incident gave a new direction to his political journey. The young man who had once taken to the streets against question paper leaks, endured baton blows, suffered fractures, and still refused to stop… his name was Dharmendra Pradhan.

For the past six months, a systematic campaign had been underway to portray this very man as the villain….a man who had himself endured so much.

A person whose political career was built on fighting for students, getting his bones broken and his jaw shattered for their cause, was made the target.

I admit that some of the earlier HRD Ministers were genuinely not the right fit for the position. However, in my view, Dharmendra Pradhan has been the best choice for this ministry in the last ten years.

I will also present a list of the good work he has done during his tenure. I’ll share all of it in my next post. Feel free to fact-check every single point before forming your opinion.

Today, I congratulate the Cockroach Party, the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and the Left parties for successfully executing a well-planned campaign to take Pradhan’s wicket. But I also congratulate certain “Shukracharyas in disguise” among YouTubers and social media influencers, whose relentless engagement farming since January finally bore fruit.

Even today, I maintain that the UGC regulations were the most impartial guidelines ever introduced for the GC/UC framework. That is precisely why the Left was fiercely opposed to them. All one had to do was calmly read the regulations once, in any language, even by using Google Translate if needed. But no….we chose to trust “our own people” instead.

After all the outrage had been manufactured and the engagement farming had been completed, the very same Vishnu Jain and Sanjay Dixit admitted on camera that the issue over which Jaipur Dialogues, Ajit Bharti, and their “group” had been running a campaign was based on a fake narrative…..a fake narrative. But by then, Dharmendra Pradhan had already been turned into the villain.

I deliberately avoided writing about Dharmendra Pradhan all these days. Because back in 1997, none of us had invited him or submitted an application asking him to lead a protest, get his jaw broken, or suffer three fractures for students. Yet today, instead of trusting a man who actually came out on the streets and fought for students’ welfare, many people were convinced that YouTubers who had never faced even a single police baton, along with paid social media opinion-makers, understood students’ interests better. Perhaps that is why Pradhan’s departure was considered appropriate. Today, he is gone.

In my next post, I will list the work Pradhan accomplished during his tenure. After reading it, I believe you too will conclude that he could not have been responsible for what he has been accused of. At best, his exit can be described as collateral damage. The Prime Minister, who today has given a concession to critics within his own camp and to the opposition, may well make them pay a much bigger price tomorrow. Compared to Pradhan’s resignation, legislations like VBSA, Delimitation, and the amendments to the FCRA rules are far more important. It was essential that these issues be resolved as soon as possible. Now, hopefully, that will happen in this very session.
